I wore my device and exercised for more minutes than what displays in the Paceline app. What gives?
Though you may have worked out for many minutes in duration, the length of your workout does not necessarily equal Apple Watch exercise/Fitbit active zone /Garmin intensity/Paceline minutes (because, during a workout, there could be times you’re stretching, drinking water, etc. that do not contribute to a higher heart rate or workout intensity).
This is because your device measures Paceline minutes in a different manner that is based on your heart rate:
- For Apple Watch users, this metric is Exercise Minutes, which is “every full minute of movement that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk.”
- For Fitbit users, this metric is 'Active Zone Minutes', which are earned "for time spent in the fat burn, cardio, or peak heart-rate zones . . . Heart-rate zones are personalized based on your fitness level and age."
- For Garmin users, this metric is 'Intensity Minutes', which is the "cumulative duration of activities of moderate or vigorous intensity, lasting at least 600 seconds (10 minutes) at a time."
- Moderate intensity is defined as an activity with a MET value range of 3-6. Vigorous-intensity is defined as an activity with a MET value > 6
