Why your score may change when you're unwell
When you're sick, your body is doing exactly what it should: conserving energy and focusing on recovery. That shift shows up in your Paceline Score.
You may notice changes across several metrics during illness:
- Resting Heart Rate often rises when your body is fighting off infection
- Sleep may become irregular or less restorative, even if you're sleeping more hours than usual
- Steps and EHR Minutes will drop as you're moving less to focus on recovery
- Endurance (VO₂Max) can dip temporarily with reduced activity
Rest is part of recovery
Paceline is built around consistency over time, and recovery is part of that. Resting when you're unwell is the right call.
Your score reflects an 8-week rolling window, so a week or two of reduced activity has less impact on your overall trend than it might feel like in the moment.
Once you're feeling better and back to your normal routine, your score will reflect that. You don't need to do anything extra to "make up" for time off. Because the score weighs recent data more heavily, consistent weeks after illness will move your score fairly quickly.
